Academic Information
Dr. Deepro Sen earned his M.E. in Power Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, followed by a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Durgapur.
Currently, he serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM), Salt Lake, Kolkata, where he coordinates subjects like Power Electronics and Renewable Energy Systems, acts as Principal Investigator for a UN-aligned grant-in-aid project on wind turbines with DFIG and smart meters targeting SDGs 7 and 13, and co-chairs the IEMRE conference. Previously, he was Temporary Faculty at NIT Hamirpur, Assistant Professor at NSHM Knowledge Campus, Durgapur, and held lecturer/assistant professor roles even prior to that.
With over 12 years in teaching, administration, and research including industry, Dr. Sen specializes in power systems optimization, wind energy integration, FACTS devices, load flow analysis, and renewable grid stability using MATLAB/PSIM. He has collaborated with wind power firms for techno-economic solutions, ensured CERC/CPCB/ISO compliance in power plants, and contributed to industry standards like ISO/IEC 17025. A reviewer for SCI journals, conference presenter, and certified in Google AI Essentials, he excels in project management, accreditation (NAAC/NBA), and lab oversight. His work emphasizes sustainable energy, data-driven strategies, and multidisciplinary team leadership in academia and industry.
Research Areas
Research Interests
Dr. Deepro Sen’s research focuses on power system optimization, particularly optimal power flow, voltage stability, and power loss minimization in transmission and distribution networks. He works on placement and control of flexible AC transmission devices such as UPFC under healthy and stressed grid conditions, along with automation and reliability enhancement of distribution systems using advanced computational and optimization techniques.
